Maria Cardoso
Founder / Interim Executive Director
Maria Cardoso is a seasoned legal, operations, business management, and nonprofit professional whose diverse career has been defined by leadership, service, resilience, and a deep commitment to helping others. Maria worked for prominent NYC and Miami law firms as a legal professional in the 1990's. In the 2000's she joined LeRoy Adventures working for Warner LeRoy. In 2006, she joined the Latz Negotiation Institute, working alongside a prominent internationally recognized negotiation lawyer and former White House Advance Team Negotiator. In 2010, Maria joined a prominent business management firm serving high-profile celebrities, professional athletes, and high-net-worth individuals, managing their complex financial, legal, personal, and professional affairs in Beverly Hills, CA. In 2018, she returned to New York as Director of Operations, Legal Affairs, and Board Liaison at the Workers' Circle, a social justice nonprofit — a role that brought together every discipline of her career within a mission-driven organization. Even while working full-time and raising children, Maria volunteered at Home Base Youth Services and City Meals on Wheels. Her firsthand experience witnessing the emotional, physical, and financial toll of serious illness on individuals and families led her to found Angels for Health — dedicated to ensuring that no one is forced to choose between medical care and other life essentials. Kenia Balikes
Director of Programming & Events
Kenia Balikes is a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran and dedicated professional whose journey has been shaped by service, resilience, leadership, and a genuine desire to make a difference. With more than 10 years as a medical specialist in the Air Force and six years of experience in the nonprofit healthcare sector, Kenia brings a unique combination of military discipline, compassion, strategic thinking, and versatility to every role she takes on. She has streamlined operations, strengthened administrative processes, embraced innovative technology, and helped organizations work more efficiently while never losing sight of the people behind the work. What truly sets Kenia apart is her commitment to people — she believes that successful organizations are built not only on strong processes, but on meaningful relationships, trust, and a willingness to serve others. Her military service instilled in her a strong sense of responsibility, integrity, accountability, and perseverance, while her nonprofit career deepened her understanding of compassion and community. Together, these experiences have shaped a leader who brings both strength and heart to everything she does.

Robin is an accomplished Operations and Human Resources Administrator with 25 years of office experience supporting organizational efficiency, employee engagement, and cross-departmental coordination. Known for streamlining administrative processes and strengthening HR operations, Robin manages complex workflows with precision — overseeing employee records, supporting recruitment and onboarding, and reinforcing compliance across the organization. With a proven ability to connect people, processes, and priorities, Robin ensures daily operations run smoothly while fostering a workplace where employees feel supported and empowered. Robin has worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, The National Council of Jewish Women, and Workers Circle.
